U.S. Bonds
According to the U.S. Treasury, over 25,000 U.S. Savings Bonds are undelivered each year due to faulty addresses. These are waiting in the U.S. Department of the Treasury for their rightful owners. Take time to search for any bonds that may be in your name. When gifting bonds be sure to verify the address you are using. You may also want to check to make sure the person you gave it to received it.
In addition to missing U.S. Bonds, there are billions of dollars in bonds that have reached maturity and are no longer paying any interest. If these bonds are cashed in, they can be put in an interest bearing account such as a savings account, CD or reinvested in other bonds so they will make money.
