Tax Refunds
Every year millions of dollars in tax refunds go undelivered due to a change of address, incorrect mailing labels, names spelled wrong etc. Though the IRS has a search for tax refund information, often people can’t remember the information the IRS requires.
The National Taxpayers Union (NTU) is the quickest, free way to find out if you are owed a tax refund from the IRS. The NTU allows you to search by state, full name or partial name.
Click to find missing tax refunds at NTU.
The IRS web site has a “Where’s My Refund” feature that you can use to access the status of your current tax refund information.
To access this data you will need to know the exact refund amount you are missing, your Social Security number and your filing status ie single, married filing jointly etc.

You can also call the IRS Refund Hotline directly at 1-800-829-1954 to track your tax refund.
To help prevent missing tax refunds:
~ Update the IRS with any change of address. File form 8822 to notify the IRS of your address change.
~ File electronically. This decreases the likelihood of your tax refund getting lost and cuts down on the wait time for your tax refund.
~ Request that your tax refund be direct deposited to your bank. This decreases the likelihood that your tax refund will get lost.
